The Mission of the Music Team
From the onset of Harbor Church MidCity, we believed that worship through music was going to be one of the key ways in which cultures and languages would collide and have fellowship among our congregation. Therefore we put alot of time and energy into seeking out a talented group of musicians who could play a wide variety of musical styles impromptu and passionatley. It was a truly wonderful experience to get to know each of the band members and to see them interact within the group and to hear what great sounds they produced.
Secondly, it was vital that the music reflect the cultures that are present in the City Heights, Kensington, and Talmadge communities that we worship in. This means that every Sunday morning is filled with Latin rhythms in sung Spanish, black Gospel tunes and hymns in English, and a smattering of African and Asian songs in a variety of languages. This makes it hard to describe exactly what our "sound" is besides eclectic with a "world" focus. The one thing that we continually remind ourselves of is that noone is going to come into our service and feel like the music is exactly what they like. Every person is going to make stylistic sacrifices in our services.
But, the one thing that is never sacrificed is the extreme focus of Christ as redeemer, shepherd, and Lord of our lives. Every Sunday is a practice of lifting that Gospel up in the various languages and cultural styles of the people of our community. We pray that God would continue to make our communal worship experience a closer and closer reflection of His great and diverse Kingdom here on earth!

God has blessed us with the opportunity to put some of our unique songs from the poets of our congregation onto a CD for the benefit of His Kingdom and our congregation and all those who would be blessed by it.
